There are frequent connections to Southampton Airport Parkway as well as numerous local and national services. The distance between the station and the terminal is just under a mile. Each terminal has their own taxi rank and these are orderly and well regulated. City Cruise Terminal has 500 seats and Mayflower Terminal provides seating for 700 people. While you could theoretically rent a car at either Heathrow or Gatwick (several Southampton hotels offer 'cruise & stay' parking packages), it's far easier to pre-arrange a taxi. MSC Cruises’ MSC Virtuosa is the first ship to welcome passengers at the terminal, which is fitted with Shore Power. MSC Virtuosa, with Shore Power connectivity enabled onboard, will be able to ‘plug in’ once the Shore Power is commissioned later this year.
A member of the ship’s security team will ask for your card which they will scan and they will check your photo (just taken) matches you – you are then free to enter the ship. When your group is called you head to the doors at the rear of the waiting area which is signposted – your cruise card will be checked and you follow the signs to the ship. The walk can be quite lengthy as the gangway is a series of ramps to allow wheelchair/mobility access. However, there is no rush and you can enjoy views of your ship as you walk along them. You will then be handed your cruise card – this states which deck and cabin you are located on and also your dining time. Additionally, it will also be a different colour card based on the MSC Voyager Club status you have.
The Horizon Cruise Terminal – Dock Gate 10, Southern Road leads to Herbert Walker Avenue, where the car park and terminal are located.
